Each Christmas, I try to do something handmade. This past year, I raided several thrift stores around town to gather up some still-in-good-shape plates and bowls, as well as some interesting possibilities for pedestal bases, like dessert bowls and candle sticks. Then I stopped at Michael’s and picked up some Martha Stewart paints in metallic and pearl finishes and some E-6000 glue.
First, I washed everything to make sure I had a good work surface for painting and gluing. Then I started by painting 2-3 coats of paint on the inside of the pedestals.
I used silver and copper metallic paint, and white and light blue pearl paint. (note: once you paint and glue the dishware, it is hand-wash only)
Now it was time to put them all together! I used a tutorial from Dollar Store Crafts, since I had never used E-6000 before. I was surprised how easy it was! Put a little glue on each surface, wait a minute, then press them together. Make sure you allow yourself enough time for the pieces to dry and cure (24 – 72 hours).
These were a huge hit for Christmas gifts!
My only mistake? I didn’t keep one for me. Back to the thrift store!!
